I was a young hockey, soccer player and track and field athlete, who had no idea what he wanted to be when he grew up trying to find what I was meant to do in life. But nothing seemed to really stick and have that deep emotional attachment to show you that you're on the right track. I really wanted to find my passion in life so I wouldn't have to continue to wander through life, and not live a life I could be proud of. I felt an immense amount of pressure to do this.
I wanted to be able to find my passion and purpose in life so I could belong in a sense, and feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to do. And I could dedicate myself to it and be happy while still having an income to have the freedom to do whatever I wanted in life.
The thing is, despite opening my mind to trying so many different things, including the police and the military, working at a car rental company with exotic cars (which was a lot of fun!), real estate, boxing, restaurants, warehouses, manual labour, nothing ever gave me that "aha!" moment. Nothing ever really stuck and gave me that deep sense of belonging. I had this restlessness that wouldn't stop. I felt like I was missing out on something that other people seemed to have and I didn't know why. That meant I wasn’t able to find my passion and purpose in life so I could belong, and feel like I'm living my reason for existing. Never mind give me a chance to go "all-in" on it and feel peace and happiness in life at last, and have the financial flexibility to have the life I've always dreamed of.
To make things worse, I felt terrible because I thought something was wrong with me. I felt that despite me trying to experiment with many different careers and ideas, virtually nothing really resonated with me. So I didn't feel I belonged and felt like the odd person out and didn't know how or why to fix this... I felt even worse about the situation because I know life is what you make of it. And I was trying to experiment with many different career ideas, but ended up feeling like a failure because nothing really "hit me" emotionally. So, you could say, I felt I was missing out on life, in reality. I felt everyone was experiencing something that I wasn't able to grasp somehow. Nothing I did or tried "felt right"... I felt like a failure that was letting life slip away, and being unable to stop it...
The even bigger problem came when my wonderful family started developing a seemingly endless number of extremely serious health problems. Which meant I suddenly was faced with the mortality of the people on this earth I have loved more than words could describe, and had to really dedicate myself to look after them as best as I could. And I also then had the firm ironclad realisation that we don't have infinite time here on this planet. Which hurt me on an extremely deep level because of the suddenly-now-possible implications of losing someone I love very much. But it also showed me that I needed an even more intense focus to be the best man I possibly can be for my future, as well as to be there for those I care about in any way needed. I needed to burn the candle at both ends, now!
That's when I got probably one of the most important gifts I have ever been given in my life. My lovely Grandma bought me a computer. I immediately became a sponge, learning all about computers, making and repairing them, studying cybersecurity and e-commerce as well as the technological revolution humanity was undertaking!
It was now crystal clear to me how to finally achieve my purpose in life, live life on MY terms with maximum freedom, and be able to have the time to be a caregiver for the people I loved more than anything in this world at the same time. I now had a way that I could do it all! Because I saw I could finally become the man I had always wanted to be. One that could be living his passion to the maximum degree, but at the same time, strong enough to help anyone around him who needed it. The highest of standards for myself, could finally become reality..
I also learned that the idea of your passion being an illusive concept that may not exist for most people, so you need to forget about it and just "fit in" and "be realistic" is not true. We can live the life we dream of, after all. Which was shocking to me, and still is at times, truthfully. You need to know that finding and living your passion and purpose in life is not impossible, and you can find it and achieve it if you dedicate yourself to testing many different avenues in life and never giving up on yourself or your future.
As a result I was able to make my first sale many moons ago on eBay, to a nice woman in Texas who bought a 10K Gold Cubic Zirconia Marquise cut ring from me. My store was called the One Stop Jewellery Shop. I will never forget that night. It made the dream become real. That first spark, that created fire...
After I did that, I started to realise I could live my purpose and dream life at last. I made money while sleeping when I sold that ring. A mind-blowing concept that still shocks me to this day that such a thing is even possible..
Suddenly, I was learning everything I could about e-commerce and how to keep improving myself in every way possible, even more intensely than I did before. Even as humanity continued to evolve and adapt at near breakneck speed. I had proof now, that I can do it. I think people often need that "rubber hits the road" moment, in order to really crystalise something in their minds as something that's possible. Especially if it's far removed from their current reality. "Seeing is believing", as the saying goes...and I saw proof now!
That’s when I realized that the secret for me to finding what I was meant to do in life, was now...finally...crystal clear. Beforehand, nothing seemed to really stick and have that deep emotional attachment to show me that I was on the right track... My path forward was for me to create a business on the internet, an amazing, almost magical place to me. A place that connects people from all walks of life, from all over the world. Limitless possibilities..
My plan was to start to see what I can do in this new unfamiliar world online, and push myself to the fullest extent now that I may have finally found my passion and purpose.
So I started learning everything I could at double the efforts from before, from every possible expert and successful person I could find. Online business, offline business, online personality, offline personality, new and current, or centuries old, didn't matter. To try to see if there were any glimmers of truth or knowledge I could apply to my life and situation to improve myself.. But I didn’t stop there.
I then slowly started networking with many other like-minded people, and improving our skills together to deal with a seemingly ever-changing digital landscape. Humanity is ever evolving and we were dedicated to be at, or at least near, the head of the curve to be the best we could be. I again wanted to be sure I could be the best man I could possibly be. Relentless improvement.
After that, I slowly started to branch out. Having different pieces of jewellery, speaking to many different suppliers from every corner of the world. Bringing 21st century thinking and technology, to the jewellery business, which has existed for many many many centuries. It seems that you CAN teach an old dog new tricks, after all! Trying to build the best platform I possibly could to offer gorgeous pieces of jewellery for incredible prices that so many celebs now trust as their hidden fashion secret. Beauty on a budget.
My thinking was that celebs would be the harshest critics due to them having access to virtually anything on earth already. So making it into their fashion repertoires would be very difficult. It would be a great feather in the cap, but also a very good stress test to see if I truly had what it takes to make it, I thought!
Building on that success, I've decided to open the doors up to all women everywhere, rather than being just a secret place for celebs to shop on the cheap. There has been more than enough support from women from all walks of life that it was impossible to ignore, and more humbling than you could imagine!
As anyone will attest to about business... There are always so many problems that get in the way of your dream or vision. Websites not quite working the way you want them to, which can be so frustrating trying to fix what seems like an endless game of whack-a-mole. Suppliers not delivering what they were supposed to, which can be devastating to a business. Experts becoming more like "experts", in the end, and just taking you further away from the right path, rather than closer. Add in a mountain of anxiety and even financial issues along the way, and it's truly a wonder that anyone makes it through that gauntlet in the end...
I felt that overall, I had a good heart that was in the right place in my vision for business, wanting to do right by people, and I had some good contacts I've made to help me improve, but I was still missing something. I knew I needed and desired to push myself harder, and stand out to not only make it more likely I would succeed, but also because I have always had this desire to be the best version of myself possible.
I ended up getting so frustrated that I decided to think outside the box and realise that maybe I would have to trust myself more and teach myself what I needed to fill in the gaps. Rather than relying on others and "experts" to fill in the gaps for me...people that maybe didn't love what I did as much as me, or didn't have me or my customer's best interests at heart. I needed to forge my own path. I felt like this was a recurring theme of my earlier "forging my own path" while trying to find my passion, to begin with. Maybe this is a pattern with me!
“Catney's Jewellery”. My namesake. I like the idea of putting your name on something. It can help to keep you accountable, since your name is on the door.
I thought if I could create something that would make it possible to offer gorgeous and very high quality pieces of jewellery for amazing prices, that can be adored by some of the most discriminating tastes from some of the most famous women on earth, but still have a price that any can afford so nobody feels left out from being able to feel like the best version of themselves...I'd be really happy, it would be truly special.
After years of setbacks, endless pitfalls, more problems that I could ever possibly count, at least one case of near total financial collapse, and several other close calls mixed in for good measure (it's a medical miracle I still have a full head of hair!...), I created Catney's Jewellery.
I can now help any woman dress like the most famous celebs in the world in minutes, even if she isn't rich.
When I first officially opened the doors to all women at last...
As a result of everything in my journey so far, I was able to achieve the following:
It's still shocking to talk about, even for ME...
But now, it's truly possible for one to come to Catney's Jewellery. A safe, efficient platform that runs like a dream. So many people use websites every day. They truly would be shocked I'm sure, to learn just how much goes into building one and have it just simply WORK. Sounds simple, but it can often be anything but, I assure you.
Once they've come here to Catney's Jewellery, they can see some of the most famous, and successful celebs in the world. Already loving and adoring these gorgeous pieces, in their fashion choices. I'm still so humbled and even a tiny bit embarrassed at times, I admit...
Having endorsement of such amazing women, is probably one of the biggest compliments that could ever be given to me, I feel.
It's impossible to deny such a powerful form of validation of success and unrelenting passion to develop pieces of jewellery that will be enjoyed, built to the highest quality. At a price point that makes them accessible to all.
After creating Catney's Jewellery, I was not only able to offer any woman the chance to feel at her best, with fashion the celebs themselves enjoy, at a price any woman can afford, so no woman is left behind... But I’ve also been able to stop worrying about whether or not I have done enough self-improvement to develop myself to see my passion come to fruition. Because I can now see the proof in the fact that some of the most famous celebs in the world love and adore these gorgeous pieces in their fashion repertoires. They have access to ANYTHING, one would assume. So if they've made this choice to wear these pieces out of them all, that must mean something. Maybe I've found my passion and purpose after all!
And in the end, all of this means I’m now able to live my purpose and passion in life to the fullest. To be the best man I possibly can be at last. And be there to help my family as the caregiver I've needed to be while getting everything off the ground and to where it deserves to be. No more anxiety or stress, no more endless worry..
Welcome to my dream and passion and self-development journey. Welcome to Catney's Jewellery. Welcome to what is quite likely, one of the celebrity world's best kept glamour secrets. Now it's your turn.
Beauty on a budget. Your secret is safe with me.
